Julide Özçelik
Jülide (b. 1975, Istanbul) is a musician.
After high school, she began her music education by being admitted to the Light Western Music department at Müjdat Gezen Art Center. In the year she graduated, she entered Istanbul Bilgi University’s music department on a full scholarship. There, she studied vocal techniques with Nükhet Ruacan in the vocal performance department. She graduated after taking ensemble, harmony, and solfeggio classes from instructors such as Selen Gülün, Randy Esen, İmer Demirer, Donovan Mixon, Ayşe Özbekligil, Raci Pişmişoğlu, Ricky Ford, and Can Kozlu. With the idea of making jazz with Turkish lyrics, she created a number of projects and performed them. In the meantime, she joined Turkish classical music choir studies and appeared as a soloist in concerts. She also made live recordings with the TRT Light Western Music and Jazz Orchestra.
In 2008, with an Anatolian sensibility, Jülide Özçelik released her first album, Jazz İstanbul Volume 1, arranged by Cem Tuncer. Cem Tuncer, Kağan Yıldız, Ediz Hafızoğlu, and Genco Arı took part as musicians. Her second album, Jazz İstanbul Volume 2, was released in 2011, followed by her third album, Nefes, in 2019.
Recordings of jazz standards with the TRT Jazz Orchestra have been broadcast on TRT radios.
Over the years, she has also appeared as a guest artist on many different albums across various genres. A concert series that began in 2012 with the Antalya State Symphony Orchestra continued with performances alongside the İzmir, Istanbul, Bursa, Çukurova State Symphony Orchestras, TED Symphony, and the Mersin State Opera and Ballet Orchestra. She has performed at jazz and music festivals and many local art events. She also enjoys performing genres such as Turkish classical music, Turkish folk music, and tango, and she served as a soloist with the Istanbul 12 Orchestra for many years.
She continues to perform with her musician friends Cem Tuncer, Ediz Hafızoğlu, Ercüment Orkut, and Alper Yılmaz.
